Title: Bar Manager
Reports to: Club Manager
Based at: Huyton & Prescot Golf Club
Huyton & Prescot Golf Club is situated on the outskirts of Liverpool, Established in1905, it is a traditional private members club with a healthy membership offering all of the facilities normally associated with the activity.
The Club provides a Food and Beverage service to members and visitors serving a range of meals and alcoholic and soft drinks on a day to day basis. As well as this regular business, the Club also holds formal dinners, themed evenings and occasional Sunday lunches. Weddings, birthday celebrations and funeral gatherings are also catered for.
The catering and bar functions, although closely connected, are managed separately and we are currently looking to recruit a Manager/Steward to oversee the Bar service.
Overall Role
The Bar Manager is responsible for the delivery of an efficient food and beverage service to the golf Club. The Manager will work closely with the Club Manager and Head Chef to ensure that an excellent level of service is maintained to provide an enjoyable experience to all members and guests.
Responsibilities
- To ensure the smooth running of the bar and catering service in the Clubhouse to the benefit of all customers.
- To plan and agree with the Club Manager, on a weekly basis, a staff rota.
- To monitor and control stock and staffing levels to ensure that the service is operating in the most efficient manner.
- To build and maintain a close working relationship with the Kitchen Department in order that customers' needs are met.
- To manage staff resources and show leadership in the department to demonstrate the standards of service which are required.
- To provide training and advice junior members of the team.
- Control cash and other takings in line with the Club’s set policies and procedures.
- To ensure that all bar and lounge areas are kept in a clean and tidy condition.
- To ensure that all legal requirements and standards of hygiene and Health and Safety are met.
- Suggest ideas and implement improvements to develop the catering and bar service.
Knowledge and skills
Experience of hospitality/F&B delivery in Golf Club or related services
Understanding of traditional Golf Club members expectations
Food hygiene and health and safety experience
Staff Management experience
Ability to understand and deliver differing customer needs.
Proactive problem solving
Good communication skills
Ability to manage priorities especially during periods of high workload
Personal attributes
Presentable, articulate, reliable and flexible
Must possess a natural work ethic
Desire and ability to grow clubhouse activity

Hours of Work
The position is based on a forty hour week, However, the Golf Club operates seven days a week throughout the year and it will be necessary therefore, for the Bar Manager to be flexible in their approach. Spring and summer and weekends are the busiest times and the hours of work need to reflect this. In addition, there are a number of major functions for which the Club requires the Bar Manager’s full attendance.

Huyton & Prescot Golf Club was founded in 1905 and is home to a gem of a parkland golf course that is only ten miles outside of Liverpool, in the County of Merseyside and is well within easy reach from the motorway networks. Although our course is sometimes deemed not the longest it is widely regarded as one of the best tests of golf in the North West area, with our tree lined fairways and undulating greens it will certainly put your course management and golfing abilities under pressure but provide the perfect setting for a great days golfing.
We are currently looking to employ a passionate and ambitious individual as an Assistant Greenkeeper to help maintain the high standards our members and visitors have come to expect at Huyton & Prescot.
Job Description & Responsibilities
- To carry out routine golf course maintenance as directed by the Head Greenkeeper.
- Work will consist of the skilled use of appropriate tools and equipment daily, which include the utilisation of ride on mowers, tractors, and mounted accessories, as well as pedestrian controlled plant and powered hand tools. A typical working week will include both manual and machinery tasks.
Overall responsibilities will include the following operations:
- Monitor and maintain health & safety and security in the workplace.
- Machine mowing of banks, rough, semi-rough, tees, collars, approaches, fairways, and greens.
- Changing holes.
- Scarifying, verti-cutting, aeration.
- Applying nutrition & top dressing.
- Irrigation.
- Identifying control of weeds, pests, and control of turf disease and disorders.
- Bunker maintenance.
- Routine machinery maintenance.
- Effective communication.
- Uniform and PPE will be supplied.
The working week will be 40 hours, inclusive of some weekend work and will vary depending on the season.
Essential Requirements:
- NVQ 2 Sportsturf or equivalent. (Willingness to work towards Level 3 Advanced Greenkeeping).
- PA1, PA2A, PA6 spraying certificates – desirable.
- CA30/C31 chainsaw qualifications – desirable.
- Full driving licence.
- Ability to work as part of a team and at times on your own.
- 2 - 3 years’ experience in a similar role would be advantageous.
